Newcastle will resume talks with Barcelona over their move for Brazilian defender Edmilson on Monday, but suddenly European champions AC Milan have shown an interest, and that is one BIG spanner in the works for Sam.
Sam Allardyce flew to Spain on Thursday in an attempt to persuade the 30-year-old to join the Magpies, and if the newspaper reports are right ... he impressed the defender.
But the former Lyon defender is now being watched by Italian giants AC Milan despite the knee injury which is expected to rule him out until October.
Edmilson is understood to have told the Magpies he is ready to head for St James' Park, but that was before Milan entered the race.
Suddenly Barca president Joan Laporta, who had earlier given Newcastle permission to talk to the player, has also told the Italians they are free to talk.
Newcastle will reopen discussions with the Nou Camp hierarchy on Monday, but so will Milan.
